Kenny The Monk

Another highlight of the Neuroleadership Summit in San Francisco was the gala dinner, with Kenny Moore (Kenny The Monk) who shared his very inspiring story and thoughts on changing the corporate world. I asked him after dinner if we could video our conversation as I knew he’d inspire more than just me – it was one of those moments that leave you feeling privileged and wishing you could share it with everyone. So I hope you’re encouraged, cheered on to step out and take the risk you’ve been contemplating, and live the dream you sometimes squash.

Seize the Day!!! And make yourself accountable so you don’t shrink back in any way. If you can see it, you can achieve it. This is absolutely true, but you need the will to follow through when discouragement tries to take hold. Hang in there and keep believing in your dream.

As Eleanor Roosevelt said “The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.”

She also said – “You gain strength, courage, and confidence by every experience by which you really stop to look fear in the face. You are able to say to yourself, ‘I lived through this horror. I can take the next thing that comes along.”

Cheering you on,

Kerrie

Discussing Stress with an Expert!

Every speaker at the Neuroleadership Summit in San Francisco earlier this month shared some incredible insights and fascinating science – a personal highlight for me was hearing Jessica Payne speak about the neuroscience of Stress, Sleep, Memory and Cognition.

Jessica Payne and Kerrie Phipps at the Neuroleadership Summit San Fransisco

I thought her tips were especially important and very practical – so we had a chat in front of the camera to share some of the gold with you… nevermind that I was slightly jet-lagged! I certainly understood the value of her comments. I’m sure many of you know that long-term chronic stress was my undoing about 9 years ago, and it’s been a long road to recovering my health – especially brain health.

Many people I talk to are under too much stress, for too long, and changes need to be made before your body makes a serious change for you. As Jessica says, moderate stress is ok, but would you describe your stress as moderate and useful, or unhealthy? Does it keep you awake at night? Does it affect your clarity of thinking? Your general wellbeing or relationships?

Here’s some simple tips to help – enjoy the video and find a small change you can make to support your best asset – your brain.

Wayne Pearce

Wayne Pearce,  footy legend, motivational speaker and coach was speaking at an event Lyndon and I attended last night – and it was a delight to hear him speak.  I’m  always so happy to hear from professional sports people as they exemplify focus, commitment and countless other  inspiring and admirable qualities.

He discussed the brains incredible plasticity and how we can rewire our brains – just one of my absolute favourite topics!  He also inspired and challenged leaders and business owners to give people a sense of belonging and bring a sense of meaning to what they do, which is so important for everyone, regardless of their role.

Brings to mind what David Rock was teaching us at Results Coaching Systems Leadership Day a few months ago.  The brain needs certainty, a sense of status, autonomy, relatedness and fairness in order to be in an optimal thinking space…  just one of the fascintating things about the brain that we can take into account when coaching!

Wayne also kindly autographed a note to our son Ethan which totally made his day.

Thanks for coming to Dubbo Wayne!

Learning and Development

Learning and Development has definitely been the theme for me this month! I usually feel like I’m on a learning curve, and absolutely love it, but sometimes it’s much steeper than other times. We started the month with a Think & Grow Rich Seminar in Sydney which was fantastic; a confirmation of the path we’re on, and a time of opening our eyes to further opportunities. It was also the beginning of some amazing new friendships!

I was asked to speak about Networking at the Chamber of Commerce Breakfast in Dubbo on 4 March, which went really well – people left buzzing – one woman who I networked with in front of the room (as a demonstration) left with 3 clients as a result. (that we know of!) I’ve since written “Confidently Connecting – Top Networking Tips” for Regional Business Magazine, receiving great feedback about how useful it’s been. If you’d like a copy please let me know and I’ll send it to you.

Results Coaching Systems invited me to attend their Asia Pacific Leadership Days, which was brilliant (as expected). Day One was focused on business development – as a Results team, and individually. One of the highlights for me was meeting my Coach friends from New Zealand, who I’ve only known on the phone and by email until now.

That evening David Rock, Founder and CEO of Results Coaching Systems was the guest speaker at the Boss Club event in the Sydney’s CBD. It’s always great to hear David speak about what’s happening in the Neuroleadership world and it was an excellent event, beautifully hosted by Boss Magazine Editor Narelle Hooper.

The next day with the Results team was focused on training and we spent a good portion of the day with David delving into the Neuroscience that relates to coaching and sharing resources to further improve the quality of our programs. I loved it and took pages of notes. If you’re interested in this fascinating subject check it out here… www.neuroleadership.org – the audio downloads are really interesting.

More March news soon…to much excitement for one blog!

Have a great week, enjoy your own learning and development,

Love Kerrie
