We discussed some of these questions at last week’s Conversations With Entrepreneurs – my 12th Australian Conversations event, on the special date, 12/12/12 :-) It was pretty special to hear some people say that they were taking away a new perspective about themselves and the year they’ve had, as well as some exciting new contacts.
What questions are you asking yourself to reflect on 2012? Just in case you’re wondering why – let me give you a few reasons why it’s super-worthwhile…
It’s a really useful reality check. I know you are well aware of what you haven’t accomplished, finished, or done as well as you wish you could have, but are you fully aware of what you have done, and what you’ve learned, gathered or begun, that will help you out in the future?
It builds confidence. When you give yourself a break and realise what you have achieved and developed, you’ll be boosted with a sense of what’s possible, and you’ll be more confident to go for it.
It’s fun! So much better than beating yourself up! Raise a glass to yourself, pat yourself on the back, or just write a little note to yourself, “I’m most proud of…”
So ask yourself (and team up with your calendar, journal, photo album, facebook “year in review”) these questions – and more if you like. (There are more fabulous questions and discussion on the audio attached below called Celebrating 2012)
What were the big moments of 2012? Where did I go, what did I do? What did I do for the first time? (perhaps list “brave moments” or “firsts”) What have I overcome? (or how am I still overcoming, standing tall, or rising again?).
Who did I meet who opened my eyes to new things, or new perspectives. What have I learned in 2012?
How am I stronger or more resilient than I used to be?
What decisions have I made this year that have moved me forward?
What seeds have I planted?

Oooh, I can’t wait to unpack all of these for myself! (over the holidays) And what’s really exciting is when we take it to the next stage with this question…
What does this mean for me now, letting go of 2012 and heading into 2013?
What will I be focusing on? What lights me up? What do I really do best and how can I do more of that?
What do I want to be celebrating in 6 and 12 months time?
These questions can really shift your focus and energy and take you to a place of clarity so it’s much easier to move forward.
