Go somewhere new! Or say yes to an event invitation! I was invited to an art exhibition opening on Friday night at the Fire Station Arts Centre, and although I didn’t know the artist I knew it would be a great chance to chat with a few people for 20 -30 minutes and see something new.
2 hours later I was on my way home so inspired! I met the artist, Sophie Tosh for a few minutes, and asked her if I could come back during the week to chat more. I could see that she enjoys connecting with strangers too. Many of her artworks are on vintage suitcases and tell such extraordinary stories, and there was a series of faces drawn on the back of bus tickets. Strangers who Sophie chatted with on buses, and some faces she’d seen in the newspapers. Faces tell stories and connect us.
Today Sophie and I chatted about the power of connecting with people, speaking words of life, asking questions that inspire great conversations, and some of the cool encounters we’ve had. We were joined by a friend of Sophie’s who popped in – and I know that Paul Roe and I have many more conversations to come. I kept writing down some of his one-liners, like one he read at the Scottish Storytelling Centre – “Storytelling is eye to eye, mind to mind, heart to heart”
Are you enjoying your encounters with people in your everyday? Connecting with friends, peers and strangers is a joy if you are determined to light up someone’s day. The more you connect, the more confident you become and the more enriched life is. There’s nothing like knowing you’ve made a difference in someone’s day.
Cheering you on,
Love Kerrie
