Silent Day to give Kokoda Kids a voice through education
For those who know Kerrie Phipps, the winner of this year’s Women Out West Award for Outstanding Inspirational Leadership, published author, business coach, mentor and keynote speaker, you may find it amusing that Kerrie is planning a Silent Day on 26th November at Sticks and Stones from 9am – 4pm. It is in aid of the Kokoda College in Papua New Guinea.
Kerrie says, “I have pledged to be silent for a day to give a voice to the Kokoda Kids and to put the spotlight on the importance of listening as I mirror your thoughts and help you find solutions. I would welcome any donation toward the Kodoka College and I hope to raise at least $500 from the day.”
For Kerrie and her Grandfather the work being done by the Kokoda College is very personal, “My Grandfather and I spent a week in the village for the 70th commemoration of the Kokoda Campaign and we got to know the local families and we saw the poverty and lack of education, it is especially concerning given they are our closest neighbours.”
Kerrie’s passion for the project was clear as she went onto say, “We were welcomed with open arms by the Papuan locals and we experienced the gratitude and regard they have for the Australian veterans and now we can help them.
Education is a basic need that as Australians we take for granted, there are 500,000 children who do not have access to education, more than ten times Dubbo’s population. I believe that education will transform the lives of these families and break the cycle of poverty.”
Kerrie explained, “I wanted to use my 40th birthday to make a difference and it would be wonderful if people can help me celebrate by making a small donation. I have also pledged for the month of November to donate 50% of the fee for my Significant Shift coaching sessions”.
If anyone would like to be part of the Silent Day you can book a 20 minute session with Kerrie, or watch Kerrie be silent from a distance, share on the below page social media or donate online at http://makingadifference.gofundraise.com.au/page/PhippsK
