Port Hedland community leader Denise Bevins invited me to her show on South Hedland community radio when I was over there there last month, which was such fun. We started the hour discussing why I’d requested the song “Walking on Sunshine”. Have you listened to it lately? It’s a great morning song; actually it’s a great anytime-of-the-day song.
I was prompted to think of that song, because during a previous visit to Hedland (in June) I ran the “Headspace of Effective Communicators and Leaders” event and someone asked me whether I wake up happy every day. I said that sometimes I wake up and I’m SO not ready for today…BUT… it’s about changing your thinking. Make a choice.
Sometimes we can get a bit of help from music when we might not feel like stepping into another day and being positive and encouraging. A little bit of music like “Walking on Sunshine” can put a spring in your step. You listen to it, sing along, and you can’t help but start smiling. Choose any song that does this.
We are interacting with other people every day and I think if we can walk a bit of sunshine into other people’s lives, that makes everything better. It makes business more enjoyable and it makes for better customer service experiences. We will enjoy life so much more when we can encourage each other to be uplifted.
Over June, July, August and September I traveled each month to Port Hedland (early morning pic above) and Perth and twice to Melbourne. I’ve worn steel cap boots and stiletto’s, and gone from the warm days of the Pilbara to the chill of Melbourne – where the warm hearts made up for the weather. I worked with inspiring leaders in BHP and entrepreneurs in all kinds of businesses. I traveled with FIFO workers (Fly-in/Fly-Out) and jet-setting executives. They’re not all up for a chat, bu all appreciate a smile, and a ‘thank you’ or ‘good morning’. Wherever you go, people have things on their mind, and people who they love who they don’t see as much as they’d like.
All can benefit from our choices to walk a little sunshine into their world – and we benefit too.
More on this next week – walking sunshine into the business world.
Time is ticking away – it’s nearly my birthday month and I’m using it to make a difference – I’m a bit excited :) Check it out here…
Share a little sunshine!
Cheering you on,
Kerrie
