An excited video with wisdom from Do Talk To Strangers – filmed in Sydney airport – before the Olympics. I met inspiring people everywhere, but if you’d like to hear/see a video inspired by my newest airport friend who’s currently providing live coverage to the world from Rio, click play on the video below. I also answer some of the concerns that people raise with me about Talking To Strangers – including “what if I’m polite to someone then I get stuck in a conversation?” It’s ok to ask this question! I do answer it in more detail in the book, under “How do I get rid of people in a respectful way?” (because I know my readers don’t like to be rude) but in a nutshell – you can excuse yourself politely! You can have a brief interaction that makes someone’s day – and surprisingly – it could be yours. Be interested in others, if you’ve given them your attention, even for a moment, they’ll respect your time because you’ve respected them.
Oh, and in this exciting Olympic Season, it’s extra easy to connect with people! Just ask if they’ve seen anything of the olympics lately (it seems to be on tv everywhere in public places) and what’s inspired them, or if they’ve enjoyed a particular sport or athlete’s story. Plenty of inspiration and joy to share. :)
Another aspect of this video can be summed up with Dale Carnegie’s quote – “To be interesting, be interested.”
Be curious about that person you have just met – whether in a coffee shop, or in a salon – people love when someone is interested in them. Let them talk about how they are doing, what their hobbies are – be a good listener and share your own stories too! Be confident and comfortable with yourself and you will both have a good conversation that you will never forget. Plus, you may have just turned a stranger into a friend!
Have a great week connecting, wherever you find yourself, and do let me know if you’d like to share your #DoTalkToStrangers stories!

Cheering you on,
Kerrie
