Do you realise what you accomplished in 2013?
Do you know how amazing you are?
Possibly not…
It’s easy to see how others are fabulous, but you’re comparing your internal world with their external world. Comparing your backstage fussing with their calm ‘on-stage’ performance.
Picture this. A few women in a beautiful apartment this week, overlooking Mount Panorama, beautiful views everywhere, and I asked them to look in. Discover the gold within. It looked amazing. Reviewing 2013 unpacked alot of challenges and disappointments and resilience and learning and victories. Most people are well aware of the first two, but don’t spend the time to pull out what’s underneath.
I don’t want you to miss out. I’m going to share some of the questions that unearthed valuable insights for these women over the last couple of days. I invite you to take some time out to answer them; be kind to yourself, acknowledge yourself for your growth and development and learning and wins. Then you’re in a much better headspace, clearer and more confident to face the coming year with strength and equipping.
Don’t over-think your answers; try to do each one in 3 – 5 minutes. You can come back and fill in the gaps later. And please don’t judge your answers. Just observe how you feel and the impacts, and let the learning come. Be kind to yourself. (Yes I know I’m repeating myself)
Reflect…
- What did you do for the first time this year?
- What three things made you happy?
- What were your bravest moments?
- Three things you’re grateful for?
- Three highlights?
- List 3 people who influenced you most this year?
Reflect again…
- What did you, or can you learn from the answers above? What can you be grateful for?
- What were your biggest challenges?
- What was good about them?
- Three things you’ve learned?
So how can these reflections support you to step into a New Year with confidence? During the coaching retreat, we spent one afternoon on this and then briefly did a ‘reflecting on reflecting’ – a general insight was “It’s profoundly important”
So, ask yourself – how has this reflecting process been useful for me?
Sometimes it’s hard to reflect as we don’t want to see the disappointments or hardships of the year, but they’re still there impacting you. One of the women in particular let go of fear and disappointment – and fear of disappointment – which would have been a debilitating thing to take in to a new year.
I could go on, but it’s nearly time for a New Years Celebration. And it will be a genuine celebration, because my reflections over the past week have unearthed a great appreciation for the events of the past year, and especially the people in my world, from the lifelong friends to the beautiful strangers I’ve connected with, many of whom will be featured in my 2014 book “Do Talk To Strangers”.
What will be your highlights of 2014? I hope you think big and beautiful, and believe in yourself.
If you’d like to drop me a line and share your insights I would love to hear your news!
I’ll be overseas for 10 days from 4 January, but before and after
that I’m available for debriefing/celebrating and vision/planning sessions. Contact me for more info.
Have a wonderful January and may all your dreams for 2014 come true. It’s possible if you believe it and go for it with all your heart. Be your amazing self in 2014.
Cheering you on,
Love Kerrie
PS. If you’re keen to enjoy a retreat too, please let me know! I’ve done an individual and group retreat this year just because people asked! I’m so delighted to be able to create something special that creates extraordinary breakthroughs for people.
