If we all collated our favourite books of 2016 I’m sure we’d fill a library with high quality resources.
Here’s a few to inspire you and cheer you on. Many of the authors I’m delighted to call friends, some I’ve met just this year, and most of these books are very new! The first 3 are in my library because I said yes to the B1G1 Conference in Bali (in July), the following 3 are because I said yes to a conference in Manila (in November). Then Time To Start and DO Talk To Strangers have been launched in Dubbo and going global! This is by no means a comprehensive list – and not all of the books I’ve been given by inspiring authors this year. I still have quite a few to read!

“Whatever size your business is, getting the right strategic business partnerships in place is fundamental to success. Callum has been creating partnerships for decades and in this book breaks down how anyone can follow his steps to partnership success.” – Jean-Michel Wu, Chief Talent Officer at McCann WorldGroup APAC
“Callum has pulled back the curtains on the mystery of creating successful partnership in his book, Progressive Partnerships – The Future of Business. Simple frameworks coupled with actionable steps show how every business person can be a small giant in their space of expertise by leveraging on other people’s resources.

The Genius of The Poor by Thomas Graham
“A heartfelt, inspiring story of how one man has inspired hundreds of thousands of volunteers to overcome the poverty and injustices in their midst”
Young British journalist Thomas Graham was on a short-term editorial assignment in the Philippines when he interviewed the founder of Gawad Kalinga, Tony Meloto. Asked why poverty remained so high in the country, Mr Meloto urged Thomas to ditch the tie and delve into the heart of the matter. “You won’t find the answers you are looking for in that clipboard of theoretical questions. Instead, enter the world of the poor and find solutions together.”
Thomas promptly quit his job, moved out of his high-rise Manila apartment and set out on a journey that took him across the length and breadth of the islands. Along the way, he ignored the warnings of his embassy and headed into conflict areas sporting only a GK t-shirt for protection, befriended former gang leaders, and briefly lost his father during a visit to a prison. Wherever he went, he uncovered remarkable tales of resilience, hope and transformation which taught him more insights and life lessons in a twelve month journey than all his earlier education had achieved back home.

Create The Life Journal by Kerrie Phipps
I realised as I looked at my current stack of books that there’s another that has travelled with me for the entire year (and previous editions every year since I first published it in 2008) – my revised edition of Create The Life Journal. There’s a chapter about the power of thoughts and words – and writing them down – and then there’s journal pages (with inspiring quotes) to fill with your insights, ideas, aspirations, frustrations, growing pains, gratitude – whatever you feel compelled to write! It’s a breeding ground for insight and growth. If you’re looking to develop (or support) a journaling/writing habit – this one will cheer you on. Also available here in the shop.
I hope these inspire you to consider what kind of reading you could do over the holiday season and throughout the year. Books are like traveling, they expose us to new places, new ideas, and expand our world, which is so important for increasing our empathy, creativity, and problem solving skills. Let’s make 2017 our best yet!
Cheering you on,
Kerrie
